The American Heritage Dictionary began balloting writers, poets, journalists and linguists in the 1960s to help craft usage notes to guide the dictionary user. This presentation examines the composition of the panel past and present, the role of the Usage Panel chair (currently Steve Pinker), the process of creating the ballots and the review process of the panelist's responses. Sample ballots will be shown along with examples of revisions that have been made as a result of the 2014 ballot. There will also be a question and answer session.
