Introduction to Book Editing

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

An introduction to editing books with a focus on nonfiction, this session is intended for copy editors looking to take on larger projects. Learn key concepts of file preparation, assessment of a manuscript, creating a project style sheet and following a larger style guide, consistency guidelines and effective querying. Become familiar with the various elements of a book: front matter, chapters, tables and figures, notes, references, back matter and more. We will cover the differences between working for publishers and working directly for authors, and review different kinds of books: textbooks, collected papers, multi-author edited volumes, single-author works and more.
