Elizabeth Cernota Clark's first assignment as a college journalism instructor in 2002 was to teach "Race, Gender and the Media" at Texas Woman's University. She has since been educating herself and her students about fairness, language and terminology. Now a senior lecturer in journalism at the Texas State University School of Journalism and Mass Communication, she teaches Editing for Clear Communication and news writing and reporting classes. In 2013 and '14 she directed the school's annual
Mass Comm Week. Clark has been involved in journalism since 1973, when she was hired as an editorial assistant at the Chicago Daily News.
