Sherri Hildebrandt
The Naughty Editor Founder
St. Paul, MN
After more than 30 years as a newspaper journalist (reporter, designer, copy editor, photographer, you-name-it-I-did-it), Sherri Hildebrandt inched into the freelance world when she was laid off during the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Great Copy Desk Purge of 2010. Seven years later, her blood pressure is lower, her bank account much, much emptier, and her optimism still (mostly) intact. She now copy edits or proofreads everything from scholarly papers to suburban magazines, romance novels to annual reports, either from her home office in St. Paul, Minn., or in one of her “satellite offices” – neighborhood coffee shops with convenient electrical outlets and WiFi. She also was an assistant professor at the Missouri School of Journalism (go, Tigers!) and is a proud alumna of Columbia University’s School of Journalism.
